Great coaches consistently do three things

Number one -  They engineer and almost force a connection.

They look for every possible opportunity to pair people up. If there’s even a chance to pair members, they take it. They’ll even create warm-up pieces that force partnerships. This builds community, increases interaction, and becomes one of the most valuable drivers of long-term gym health.

Number two - They have at least one movement every day that they dig into and really flush out.

Usually, a more complex movement (but can be something simpler) where the coach walks the class through a longer, well-thought-out progression. PVC pipes or light load. Clear teaching. Tons of individual cueing and coaching. As many individual interactions with every member as possible. Done well, this fits smoothly and naturally into every class.

Number three - They cool down together.

They make time — not find time — to bring the body back to homeostasis, reduce intensity, and connect with members one more time before sending them out the door.

If you routinely miss these things in class, then you have some work to do. Now that you know, though, you got this! I believe in you. Go coach your brains out.

Stay Virtuous,

Pat
